Sis, Let's Talk About How You're Showing Up

Why, Hello Gorgeous! Come on in, take your shoes off, grab you some tea, and let’s have that real-real talk—the kind you can only have with the girlfriends who know your heart and your habits.

Because today’s conversation? Whew. It’s one of those “look in the mirror and blink twice if this hits home” kinda topics.

I want to talk about intention—not the cute word we sprinkle on vision boards, but the daily practice of deciding who we are, how we show up, and what we give our energy to.

So let’s get into it.

1. Sis… How Intentional Are You About You?

You know what’s funny? A lot of us can be intentional about everybody else—kids, spouse, job, church, friends, pets, strangers on Facebook—but when it comes to ourselves? Chile… we be wingin’ it.

Be honest: When was the last time you sat down and checked in with you?

Not “Am I okay?” Not “Do I need a nap?”

But: What do I truly want? What do I need right now? And am I even on my own list today?

Being intentional about yourself isn’t selfish. It’s sacred.

It’s waking up and saying: “I get to choose the woman I want to be today.”

It’s deciding that you're no longer outsourcing your peace, your pause, or your power to people who ain’t paying rent in your life.

It’s choosing habits that support your future instead of protecting your comfort zone.

Let me tell you something: Comfort zones are cute, but they don’t grow anything. Not a dream, not a purpose, not a healed version of you.

If you aren’t intentional, life will give you leftovers. And Sis… you deserve the entrée.

2. How Are You Showing Up? (And Be Honest, Not Cute)

Here’s the part where most of us either cringe or cackle, because showing up looks good on Instagram but gets real messy in real life.

Let me ask you:

  • Are you showing up late because you’re overwhelmed or because you didn’t plan?

  • Are you showing up quiet because you’re humble or because you’re scared of being seen?

  • Are you showing up tired because life is heavy or because you refuse to rest?

  • Are you showing up for everybody else, but ghosting yourself?

How you show up is a reflection of what you believe about yourself.

Not what you say you believe…What you actually believe.

If you believe you’re worthy, you show up prepared. If you believe your voice matters, you show up confident. If you believe you’re called, you show up with expectancy. If you believe you’re still broken, you show up apologetically. If you believe you’re behind, you show up rushed. If you believe God still has work for you, you show up willing.

Sis, check your posture. Your presence is saying things your mouth isn’t.

And before you shout “well that’s just how I am,” let me lovingly tell you:

Who you were was based on survival. Who you’re becoming is based on purpose.

You’re allowed to outgrow the version of yourself you built to stay safe.

3. Are You About Your Father’s Business?

Ooh, now we’re stepping on blessed toes.

Here’s the real question: Are you doing what God assigned you to do, OR are you doing what people expect you to do?

Because there is a difference, and one will drain you while the other will deliver you.

Ask yourself:

What has God placed on my heart that I keep ignoring?

  • The book?

  • The business?

  • The ministry?

  • The coaching?

  • The healing?

  • The letting go?

  • The boundaries?

  • The lifestyle change?

  • The forgiveness?

What has God told me to release that I keep trying to revive?

A relationship? A job? A habit? A version of you that you’ve outgrown?

Sometimes we say “the devil is busy” when really…it’s us holding on to what God already stamped expired. Being about your Father’s business means you stop playing small about the assignment on your life. It means you stop dimming your gift because someone else’s insecurities have a louder voice. It means you stop pretending you’re confused when the truth is…You heard God the first time. You’re not confused. You’re uncomfortable.

But here’s the blessing: Purpose was never meant to feel comfortable. Purpose was meant to feel connected.

4. Are You Walking in Your Purpose or Just Walking Around?

Let’s not act like we haven’t all had seasons where we were busy but not productive.

Running but not progressing. Moving but not evolving. Working but not thriving. Praying but not listening. Dreaming but not committing. Walking in purpose isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being aligned.

You know you’re in your purpose when:

  • You feel stretched, but not snapped.

  • Your spirit feels fed, not starved.

  • You’re scared, but still willing.

  • You feel convicted, not condemned.

  • Your growth feels uncomfortable, but undeniable.

  • People around you grow too, just by being in your presence.

Purpose is a path, not a position.

It’s a decision you make daily: “I am choosing to live intentionally, not accidentally.”

And let me free you real quick: Purpose evolves. You don’t have to have it all figured out to start. Most of us only understand our purpose in hindsight.

But you know what reveals it faster? Movement.

Purpose is not found in perfection. Purpose is found in pursuit.

5. The Detours, Delays & Distractions: Stuff We Don’t Talk About

Let’s call them out:

People-pleasing

Exhausting. Pointless. And delays your assignment every single time.

Comparison

A thief that will rob you with no mask on.

Fear

The loudest when you’re closest to a breakthrough.

Old habits

They don’t die easy… but Sis, they do die.

Unhealed areas

If you don’t address them, they will address you.

Shame from your past

Let it go. God already did.

Busyness

An addiction that disguises itself as productivity.

Half our distractions aren’t even “bad”—they just don’t belong where we’re going.

6. How to Start Being Intentional TODAY (Not Next Monday)

Here’s your practical, doable, homegirl-approved starter kit:

1. Give yourself a daily check-in.

Ask:“What does the best version of me need today?”

2. Pick one thing you’ve been avoiding and do it scared.

Purpose responds to movement.

3. Say no to one thing that drains you.

Protect your peace like it’s the password to your bank account.

4. Write down what God keeps whispering to you.

If He repeats it… it’s an assignment.

5. Clean up your circle.

You can't walk in purpose with people who only walk in circles.

6. Make space.

Declutter your mind, your home, your schedule. Purpose needs room to breathe.

7. Celebrate every step.

Progress is still progress, even if it’s not pretty.

7. Final Word: Sis… It’s Time

Listen.

You don’t need another sign. Another confirmation. Another sermon. Another “New Year, New Me” t-shirt.

What you need is permission to choose you—and baby, here it is:

You are worth the intention.

You are worth the discipline.

You are worth the God-sized calling on your life.

You are worth the version of you that scares you.

You are worth showing up.

You are worth the work.

You’re not behind.

You’re not late.

You’re not disqualified.

You’re not forgotten.

You're just awakening.

And Sis…it’s about time you start walking like the woman God had in mind when He made you.

Let’s go do this work—on purpose, with purpose, for purpose.

As always, I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Let's continue celebrating this beautiful creation of life's masterpiece together.
