I Need Clarity, God: Am I On the Right Path?

Why, Hello Gorgeous! ...let’s talk.

Because “purpose” gets thrown around like seasoning. Everybody’s “in their purpose,” everybody’s “chosen,” everybody’s “walking in it”—but meanwhile you’re sitting on the edge of your bed like: Okay God… am I doing what I’m supposed to be doing or am I just busy? 😭
And here’s the part nobody says out loud: sometimes you are walking in your purpose, you just expected it to feel like a red-carpet moment instead of real life. Other times… you’re doing a whole lot and still feel empty, and that’s your spirit waving a little flag like, “Ma’am. Wrong turn.”
So, let’s break this down, one woman to another. No lectures. No guilt trips. Just truth, clarity, and a little push—because you didn’t come this far to keep wandering.
First, Let’s Clear This Up: Purpose Isn’t Always a Job Title
Some of us think purpose only counts if it comes with a business card, a logo, and a direct deposit. But purpose isn’t always “I’m a CEO.” Sometimes purpose is:
I’m a mother who breaks generational patterns.
I’m a woman who prays people through storms.
I’m a creator who helps folks feel seen.
I’m a safe place for others because I had to heal myself first.
I’m the friend who tells the truth in love even when it’s uncomfortable.
Purpose can show up in the quiet ways too. It doesn’t always have glitter on it.
And let me say this gently: your purpose is bigger than your paycheck.
Money is a tool. Purpose is a calling.
The “Purpose Clues” You Keep Ignoring
Sometimes God already answered you, but you’re waiting on a neon sign. So let’s talk about the clues.
1) It Pulls You, Even When You’re Tired
You ever notice how you can be dead exhausted, but the moment you start doing that thing… something wakes up in you?
Not saying it won’t drain you sometimes—because life. But there’s a difference between being tired and being spiritually depleted. Purpose might tire your body, but it usually feeds your soul.
Quick check: After you do it, do you feel more like yourself… or less?
2) People Keep Confirming It (Even Strangers)
This one used to irritate me because I’m like, “Okay so do I pay bills with compliments?” 😅
But listen—if people keep saying:
“You helped me so much.”
“You explain things in a way I can actually understand.”
“You always make me feel encouraged.”
“You need to be doing this for real.”
That’s not random. That’s confirmation.
Sometimes purpose shows up as impact, not applause.
3) It’s Not Always Easy, But It Makes Sense
Purpose doesn’t mean everything is smooth. It means even the hard parts feel… meaningful.
Like: “This is heavy, but I know why I’m doing it.”
If you’re struggling but it still feels aligned, that’s one thing. If you’re struggling and you feel lost, bitter, and numb? That might be misalignment.
Purpose vs. Distraction: How to Tell the Difference
Now let’s talk about the tricky part—because we can stay “busy” and still be off course.
Distraction feels like:
Doing everything, finishing nothing
Always starting over
Feeling anxious, rushed, scattered
Procrastination mixed with guilt
Comparing yourself so much you can’t hear God

Purpose feels like:
Focus (even if it’s slow)
Peace underneath the pressure
A sense of direction
A “this matters” feeling
Growth that doesn’t require you to fake who you are
Busy is loud. Purpose is steady.
And let me say this: some of us are not confused—we’re just overstimulated.
The Peace Test (Because God Isn’t the Author of Confusion)
Baby… peace is a serious indicator.
Not “everything is perfect” peace. More like: “Even though it’s scary, I feel held.”
Purpose often comes with:
nervousness
stretching
learning
growth pains
But there’s still a peace thread running through it.
If you constantly feel chaotic, heavy, insecure, and spiritually off—pay attention. That doesn’t automatically mean you’re wrong, but it’s a sign to pause and check in.
Ask yourself:
Is this conviction or is this confusion? Conviction corrects you. Confusion drains you.
The Fruit Check: What’s Growing Because of Your Yes?
Purpose produces fruit. Period.
Not just results… fruit.
Are you becoming more patient?
More consistent?
More compassionate?
More disciplined?
More confident?
More humble?
More grateful?
Or are you becoming:
more bitter,
more prideful,
more anxious,
more insecure,
more people-pleasing?
If the “path” is producing ugly in you, it might not be your path. And before somebody gets offended: yes, you can be in the right place and still need healing. But you know when something is pulling you away from who God called you to be.
Purpose may challenge you, but it won’t corrupt you.
Purpose Isn’t One Thing—It’s a Whole Assignment
Some of us be like, “What’s my ONE purpose? ”And God is like, “Girl you have layers.”
You might have:
a purpose for your home
a purpose for your community
a purpose for your career season
a purpose for your pain story
a purpose for your platform
And it can evolve.
You’re not failing because you’re not doing the same thing you did five years ago. You’re growing. Seasons change. Assignments shift.
You don’t need a whole life map—just the next obedient step.
The “I’ve Been Through Too Much” Part: Your Pain Might Be a Pointer
I know… we don’t love this one.
But sometimes your purpose is hiding inside what tried to break you.
Not in a “trauma is cute” way. No. In a “God didn’t waste your tears” way.
That thing you survived? That season you thought you wouldn’t make it through? That part of your story you used to be ashamed of?
It might be connected to what you’re called to help others with.
Because healed people don’t just “move on”—they build doors for others.
Take Action:
Write down 3 things you’ve overcome.
Then write down who you wish you had when you were in it. Sometimes that “who” is… you.
You Don’t Always Feel Qualified—That’s Normal
Let’s normalize this: purpose often starts as insecurity.
Moses had excuses. Gideon was scared. Esther didn’t feel ready. Half the people God called were like, “Um… you sure?”
So if you’re sitting there thinking:
“I’m not good enough.”
“Who am I to do this?”
“I don’t have the credentials.”
“I’m still healing.”
That doesn’t mean it’s not your purpose.
Sometimes purpose doesn’t show up when you’re confident. It shows up so you can become confident.
The Alignment Signs: When You’re Really in It
Let’s get practical.

Here are some signs you might actually be walking in your purpose right now:
You feel stretched, but not shattered
You’re learning and growing consistently
You’re more disciplined than you used to be
You feel drawn to serve, create, lead, build, teach, help
You’re less focused on validation and more focused on impact
You’re willing to do it scared
You’re becoming a better version of yourself in the process
You’re starting to say “no” without guilt because you’re protecting your assignment
And one big one:
You’re not chasing it to prove something—you’re doing it because you can’t ignore it anymore.
The “Stop Waiting to Be Discovered” Conversation
Sis, let me hold your hand when I say this: Some of us are waiting on a person to pick us. Waiting on a viral moment to validate us. Waiting on permission. But purpose doesn’t usually start with applause. It starts with obedience. You don’t need the audience first. Build in the dark. Practice in the quiet. Serve in the small room. Start with the 3 people who actually listen.
If you’re faithful over the little, the bigger will come.
A “Purpose Audit” You Can Do This Week
Not tomorrow. Not next month. This week.
Day 1: The Joy List
Write down 10 things that make you feel alive—not entertained, alive.
Day 2: The Pain-to-Purpose List
Write 3 things you survived and how you could help someone else through it.
Day 3: The People Confirmation List
Write down what people consistently come to you for.
Day 4: The Peace Test
What are you doing right now that drains your peace? What needs to be adjusted?
Day 5: The Boundary Check
Where do you need to say “no” to protect your time, energy, and calling?
Day 6: The “Next Step” List
Write 5 small steps you can take in the next 7 days. Not huge. Small.
Examples:
Record one video
Write one blog post
Offer one free coaching call
Volunteer once
Create one outline
Apply for one program
Email one person
Start one Bible study plan
Go for a quiet walk and pray without your phone
Day 7: The Prayer + Action Day
Pray—and then do something. Because faith without works is… you know the rest.
A Prayer for Clarity (Because We Not Doing This Alone)
God, I thank You for the way You’ve kept me—even in seasons I didn’t understand. I’m asking You for clarity. Not confusion. Not fear. Not overthinking. Show me what’s mine to do in this season. Close the doors that are distractions. Strengthen me for the doors that require courage. Teach me to trust Your voice over people’s opinions. And give me the discipline to do what I keep praying about. I don’t want to just be busy—I want to be aligned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Purpose Feels Like Home
Not comfortable. Not easy. But home.
Purpose is the place where your story makes sense. Where your gifts have direction. Where your growth has meaning. And if you still feel unsure, let me tell you something that’s going to make you breathe a little:
You don’t have to have it all figured out to be in purpose.
You just have to be willing to take the next right step.
So… what’s been pulling on you lately? That thing you keep circling back to?
Yeah. Start there.
As always, I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Let's continue celebrating this beautiful creation of life's masterpiece together.
